Space Science Research Center Vision & Mission

Vision

We create and communicate new knowledge through scientific research to advance our understanding of the universe and through our discoveries, inspire future generations of scientists and explorers.

Mission

Develop and transition Space Science technologies into major programs and missions supporting NASA's Astrophysics, Planetary Science, and Heliophysics Divisions while maintaining scientific excellence in these fields. Primary areas of research emphasis are high energy astrophysics, space plasmas, solar physics, and lunar science.

Space Science Websites:

  • Colloquium Schedule - An ongoing series of seminars by both SSRC and visiting scientists that describes the work we do.
  • Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Team - The primary objectives of our research are to study gamma-ray phenomena such as pulsars, black holes , other galaxies, gamma-ray bursts , and other exotic astrophysical objects.
  • X-Ray Astronomy - This page introduces the two main emphases of our work: Chandra Project Science and research in X-Ray astronomy.
  • Space Plasma Physics Group - The basic physics of moving plasmas, and their interactions with bodies in space, provide the fundamental basis for our research.
  • Solar Physics Group - an overview of solar physics itself along with highlights of our own work, our current projects, and possible future missions.
